Peter begins to wrap up his pastoral letter to Christ's pilgrim people. As he does, his focus returns to one of his main concerns, that of the suffering and trials that believers face. Those who follow Christ shouldn't be caught off guard when such trials arise. Rather, they should go about the difficult but rewarding task of rejoicing in being made like the master they follow. Peter, however, doesn't have martyr complex and is no glutton for persecution, rather, he wants his readers to find comfort amid the pain and chaos. Thus, he points them to Christ's presence with them by the Holy Spirit, together with a mysterious description of how God's judgment is already bearing upon them, for their comfort and good. This approach to suffering and trial leads to a God-centered and prayerful rest in our Father's care, for this alone will help Christ's people persevere to the end.
