The Corinthians had been conducting themselves as if they had forgotten the Gospel. In this, the only chapter in the letter totally dedicated to doctrine, Paul begins with a reminder of what the Gospel is all about.
In his argument he is going to connect the believer's bodily resurrection with the fact of Christ's bodily resurrection. He begins by reminding them of four basic elements of the Gospel they must have believed to be saved, and will continue to believe if they are truly saved. If they do, then they cannot deny the resurrection of people. He is using the resurrection of Christ as proof of the certain, future resurrection of those who believe the Gospel's truth.
In his opening remarks, Paul begins with four basic facts about the Gospel.

He gives two qualifications their faith will meet if they have genuinely trusted in the truth of the Gospel.
