Because Paul the Apostle desired his son in the faith Timothy to be spiritually successful, that is, he wanted the Person of Jesus Christ to shine forth brightly in Timothy's life and ministry, he was very clear in imparting to Timothy the principles of developing dynamics for spiritual success. He begins with the Method of skillful living: watch your words; study God's Word. Then Paul warns Timothy to beware the menace to spiritual success: false teachers and their seductive teachings. Because much of our spiritual battles begin in the mind, Paul reminds Timothy, and us, to concentrate on truthful, sound, biblical doctrine. Of particular importance is remembering that the Lord is Sovereign over all circumstances. Finally, Paul instructs Timothy on church ettiquete, that is, that a servant of the Lord God is not to argue and strive, rather, he is to patiently correct, with focus on the Word and the prayer that God might bring and erring brother or sister to repentance and deliver them from the power of the evil one. A message from God's Word designed to instuct and give focus for daily living.
