James and John were with their dad and Peter and Andrew in there family owned business, Apostles Fishing and guided boat tours.
These guys were anything but quiet. In Mark 3 we read in verse 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder). The name Boanerges, that is translated as Sons of Thunder, is actually better translated as ‘Boanerges, Men of Thunder’. According to Eerdmans dictionary of the Bible in the Aramaic Language bĕnê reg̱eš, means “sons of unrest,”
These guys walked around everywhere making noises of thunder. They were brash and bold and strong and stupid. See they didn't think and they didn't conside anyone, just themselves. They did not reason out and seek balance, and it cost them.
In Mark 10:35–39, These boastful, proud, and very self-righteous men had just heard that Jesus was going to go up to Jerusalem to be delivered over to the chief priest and that they will condemn Him to death. They were so distraught, so broken at the thought of their Master being murdered, that these poor broken men. Do you know what they did. They humbly came up to Jesus and said “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” Oh but that's not all. According to Matthew Chapter 20, these proud cowards, didn't have the nerve to actually ask Jesus directly, they actually had mommy do it.
