Skepticism: Thomas refuses to believe in Jesus' resurrection (25-26) Did not see Jesus with the other disciples on Easter (24) Received the eyewitness testimony of other disciples (25a) Set his standard for belief: personal observation (25b) Revelation: Jesus reveals Himself to Thomas (26-27) Appears to the disciples eight days later (26) Offers Thomas the proof he demanded (27a) Exhorted Thomas to faith (27b) Culminating faith: Thomas believes in Jesus' resurrection (28-29) Statement of faith: “My Lord and my God!” (28) Blessing upon those who have believed without seeing (29) The “signs” of John's Gospel: Selected for a reason (30-31) Selective: Many other signs performed (30) Purpose: John selected these signs so that we might: Believe Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God (31a) Have eternal life (31b) John 20:30 -31 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
