INTRO: Our subject this morning is spiritual truth. Since we are between series of messages I am dealing with a few subjects that have interested me of late. Turn to Proverbs 23 for a moment. We want to read a most interesting verse of Scripture. We go to verse 23. Here is what it says: 23 Buy the truth, and do not sell it, Truth is under attack today in a number of different ways. In a message some time ago I asked why truth is such a difficult subject. It is not difficult because it is truly difficult. It is difficult because we are truly sinful. Sin makes it hard to define truth. But consider our verse. It says, “Buy the truth…” And here is what I recommend, we have to buy the truth. We don’t have it by nature. And I recommend to you that it is costly to acquire. Further, once we have it, chances are most likely that we will want to sell it. We will sell it for peace and comfort and freedom from what truth requires of us.
