Prayer meeting sermon: We continue our series on the Beatitudes and we open up the second - "Blessed are those that mourn: for they shall be comforted". We find what appears to be a contrary saying - that happiness is found in mourning. But we find that the happiness comes when we mourn over what is spiritual - our sin first and foremost, but also, other proper areas of mourning - that men do not keep the commandments of God, that Christ's name is blasphemed, hard providences that are not due to our sin, loss of loved ones, persecution for righteousness, and so on. But for each of these areas of mourning - we find the blessedness: which is the God of all comfort comes to comfort us in Christ. And so there is a profound happiness that comes with proper mourning as God meets us and blesses us in such godly sorrow.
