We all too often play the role of Adam yet today, making various theological, philosophical, physiological, psychological, and just plain pathetic attempts to point our finger to God and others for our sin. As we consider the fall of mankind into sin and the origin of evil as recorded in Genesis chapter 3, we should keep in mind the wish of John Calvin, who aptly wrote, "I wish that men would rather suffer themselves to be judged by God, than that, with profane temerity, they should pass judgment upon him; but this is the arrogance of the flesh to subject God to its own test." May God's Spirit through the means of His Holy Word, renew our minds and protect us from the foolish and "profane temerity" to attempt to pass judgment on God, the only standard of good and evil, the only just Judge of all men.
