Loneliness is an awareness that we do not have the social interaction we desire. Loneliness can be found in a crowd. We may be lonely when we shouldn't feel that way. Loneliness ought not to be felt in the church. The church is to be a place where saved souls become more and more like Christ and experience biblical freindship.
Friendship is explored in 3 ways:
1. The matter of friendship When God made the world, he saw that it was not good for man to be alone so he made other people for him. To live friendless lives is to reject God's purpose for friends in our lives.
2. The mark of friendship The rich always seem to have many friends. However, this is a false friendship. Their friends usually just want something from them. The mark of true friendship is love. Therefore, Christ is the ultimate Friend. He died on the cross for the sins of people who were not his friends
3. The manifestation of friendship - there is the issue of compassion - there is the matter of company - there is the issue of conflict When our friends begin to sin we must come into conflict with them for their good. - the matter of counsel
When men let us down, we must remember our Savior, the perfect Friend.
