AMERICA: Forgetting God PT 1 Judges 8:1-21 To leave in our minds the idea of Gideon allowing the Holy Spirit to put him on as a garment and to use him in that brilliant victory with 300 men over the 135,000 soldiers of the Midianite army. Gideon has won a tremendous victory on the plains of Jezreel through God's deliverance. The Midianites suffered heavy losses going from 135,000 to 15,000 men. The tribes have been summoned in the mopping up process including the tribe of Ephraim. It is very crucial that we as God's children just continue being faithful to the Lord all the way to the finish line. America has forgotten God and it is very easy for us to get caught up in our prosperity. What is wrong is when our success lures us away from our dependence upon God. Only God is completely reliable. It is a sad picture but sometimes God's children can live for the Lord all through the years and then right toward the end stumble at the finish line. One of the things that must have contributed to that decline and collapse is the moral failure of some of the spiritual leaders. Gideon proceeds to deal with the two kings. There was no police force in the land. If a crime was committed against a family, then the family avenged the crime and executed the murderers. An eye was taken for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Gideon executes the kings and takes the ornaments off the camels. To the victor belongs the spoils. What a terrible tragedy if we've lived out our lives without remembering our Creator! It is a sin that wears several disguises. Pride and arrogance, is an indication that America has rooted God out. America has forgotten there is One far greater.
