Doubt. It is a scourge to any Christian's soul. Our life is built upon faith. Faith in God's Word. Faith in the finished work of Jesus. Faith to invest our lives in an age to come that we have never seen. What a torment of mind we suffer when we doubt. How condemned we feel before God, surely He must look upon us with scorn. But if doubt is not faith, neither is it full blown unbelief. Jesus Himself said that John the Baptist was the greatest man born of women, yet John doubted. While he was in Herod's prison with the possibility of martyrdom looming ever before him, he had a hard question that was perplexing his soul. It troubled him so much that he sent two of his disciples to Jesus to ask Him about it. "Are You the Chosen One, or should we expect someone else?" In other words, "Jesus, are you really the Messiah?" How did Jesus respond to John? How does He respond to us? How must we deal with the reality of doubts that arise inside of our believing hearts?
