LISTEN TO THE WHOLE SERMON!!!!!
Secret of obedience – We walk in obedience (vs.12) because we have learned to trust (vs.13).
We have to learn that, keep on learning it, make it part of our experience. We work out what he has worked in, with reverence, not being careless but realizing that although we don’t work for our salvation, we work from it, yet we do still have apart to play in how that plays out in our individual lives.
Sharing (vs.5)
Sacrifice (vs.6)
Submission (vs.7)
Suffering (vs.8) Hebrews 5:7-9, 2:10 - He learned (experienced) about us, and we learn (experienced) about Him
Sight (vs.9-11)
Obedience doesn’t mean we have to stay miserable – Jesus and the joy set before Him (Hebrews 12:1-2) – but it is not simply future joy, Jesus was the man of sorrows but anointed with gladness above all his fellows, it temporally applies to us, that is what Paul is teaching us, look at what Paul’s “children” were able to do, this is the epistle of joy
When we feel the zeal that Jesus had for His Father’s glory, and know the compassion Jesus had for us, then we will begin to have that same zeal for God and that same compassion for others. Then we will live His will through our lives.
We need to act in accordance with the provisions that God has given us. When we are humbly trusting Him in these things, and using what God gives us, acting in accordance with His providence, His provision, we will be able to see even more of His power manifest in our lives to sanctify us, and we are on our way to learning and living the secret of joyful obedience. |
