Today in Deuteronomy 18, God gives guidelines for the kings which shall rule over Israel. The rules were specific in many areas. The king is to be from among their brethren. They are not to multiply wives or silver or gold, etc. Verse 18 says, "And it shall be when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book out of that which is before the priests the Levites."
The king was to create his own copy of the law. This informs us how important God's Word is. Even in the days of the kings, the writings of Scriptue were to be written and read.
He shall read therein ALL the days of his life. He will learn to fear God. His heart will not be lifted up above his brethren. He will prolong his days as king in Israel.
God gives us these words so we will recognize the importance of His Word. We must recognize the importance of reading God's word everyday. If it was important for kings, it is important for us.
In our society today, I am afraid people are not reading the Word as they should. The are reading Facebook and Twitter. They are reading articles and BLOGs. They are reading things that are religious in nature but are not reading the Word.
Please do not allow anything to take the place of reading the Word. The Word should come first. If you are reading this BLOG and have not read your Word today, please stop reading this BLOG and get in the Word.
Reading the Word was important for kings. It is important for you.
Please read the Word.
