I am preaching through the book of Psalms. While studying, I came upon Psalm 5:5, "thou hatest all workers of iniquity." As I was meditating upon this verse, I wondered why God hates sin so much. Five of my friends and I produce a video chat called, "5 Guys and a Bible." In our video chat we discuss issues that folks might be facing in their lives. We also discuss different Scriptures. (insert plug) We are on Youtube and the web www.fiveguysandabible.com I decided to ask my friends why they think God hates sin.
Their responses:
1) because it is abhorring to his holiness. God hates sin so much because He is holy. Sin is so contrary to God's holiness, He detests it.
2) sin is opposed to His being and His will. Again we see the holiness of God in view. Sin is opposed to who God is. Sin is also contrary to God's will. God has outlines the parameters of how men should live. When men walk contrary to God's design, they in essence are expressing rebellion against Him and His way.
3) Because of it's effects or judgement. God does not rejoice in the death of the wicked. Think about this, sin when it is finished brings forth death. One reason God hates sin is because of the end result. God sees the horrible effect it will have on creation, relationships, bodies and lives.
Often, we do not think about sin from God's perspective. Yet, we should consider all things from God's perspective. If God hates sin, and the workers of iniquity, maybe we should too. Just a note, the workers of iniquity are those who have chosen to sin, knowing they are making the choice to rebel.
