Pillar 2 - Normal Spiritual Life Involves Repairing Any Leaks (FTF-07)
If you've been reading these devotions for a period of time, you've heard this part before. Christianity lives in the "buts" and "howevers" and the "therefores". For example, 1 John 2:1, "My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous."
The reason Christianity works is that the Author and Sustainer of our salvation 1) calls us to a greater life (may not sin) and 2) tells us the truth about ourselves (but if anyone does sin). If we were instantly made perfect at the point of conversion our reliance on God would not be as great. The power of Christ's Resurrection lies in that word "but". It is God who saves. And it is God who sustains. And it is God who calls us to repair our life from sin and calls us to live to not sin.
