Agur lays out one of the most important principles a sinner can ever learn. It’s a rather simple concept – Don’t make matters worse. We have all had the thought: “Well, I’ve already messed up so I might as well continue.” We are also tempted with this thought: “I know this isn’t right, but I’ve got to get myself out of this mess.” Those two thoughts have led to innumerable disasters. The reason they lead to disaster is because they are lies. The reality is that we are sinners, and that sinners sin. But the other reality is that there is only one resolution for sin, and that is repentance. One sin does not have to lead to another. Through the grace that is found in Jesus Christ, there is a remedy for sin, and that remedy is repentance and forgiveness that is found in His atoning blood. Don’t make matters worse. Stop, and seek forgiveness.
