JESUS, WHAT A SAVIOR!
Tune to “NEAR THE CROSS” 7.6.7.6. w/chorus Words by JIM BYRD

1. Hark my soul this message hear,
Good news of salvation;
God the Father sent His Son,
Author of redemption.

CHORUS: Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord,
Praise Him for His favor;
God in mercy sent His Son,
Jesus, what a Savior!

2. Here behold the grace of God,
Christ from heaven came;
Son of God, the great I AM,
Took a human frame. CHORUS

3. Grace amazing, rich and free,
God has come to earth;
See the wisdom of the Lord,
In the Savior’s birth. CHORUS

4. Jesus came and took our guilt,
Lamb of God was He;
Wrath was poured upon His soul,
There on Calvary. CHORUS

5. Justice has been satisfied,
Righteousness brought in;
Jesus saved us by His blood,
Washed away our sin. CHORUS

6. Risen, now on high He reigns,
Advocate and Friend;
Sing the praises of the Lord,
Praises without end. CHORUS

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,
that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice,
holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
And be not conformed to this world:
but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind,
that ye may prove what is that good,
and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
(Romans 12:1-2)

“CALL HIS NAME JESUS”
(Matthew 1:21)
Why shall His Name be called Jesus? There is a blessed and powerful reason why this Name should be given to Him, and that is, “because He shall save His people from their sins.” Not make them an offer of salvation if they will accept His mercy and His grace. O no, the Lord Jesus Christ went to the end of the law for righteousness for every one of His people. The Lord’s testimony by the mouth of the angel was that He should “save His people from their sins.” The Father gave Him to the church in covenant counsel for this very purpose before the world began; hence, He says, “All Mine are Thine, and Thine are Mine, and I am glorified in them” (John 17:10).
We see Jesus our Redeemer, then, as Savior from sin; and a blessed sight it is to the household of faith to see Him in this glorious character. He is the Savior of poor, lost, ruined and undone sinners. There is nowhere else the sinner can look for rest, peace, joy or comfort to his soul, but to the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of an elect world. The Holy Ghost leads every one of the chosen vessels of mercy to know something of what I am talking about. –copied

BLESSED INDEED!
The blessedness of a child of God is unaffected by the cares and troubles of the world. Believers have a spiritual health that cannot be changed by sickness, a life that will never die, a Savior who is ever faithful, justice that is fully satisfied, and eternal riches which will never be lost. Children of God have a treasure laid up where moth and rust cannot corrupt, a Foundation that can never be shaken and an inheritance reserved in the heavens. We have an irrevocable pardon, a righteousness approved by God Himself, a Friend who sticks closer than a brother and a salvation that is as secure as the throne of God. We have the almighty God as our Father, the reigning Son as our Advocate and the eternal Spirit as our Comforter. Yes, we are blessed indeed! – Pastor Jim Byrd, 13th Street Baptist Church

NEWTON’S EPITAPH
Shortly before his death on December 21st, 1807, 82 year-old John Newton confided to a friend, “My memory is nearly gone, but I remember two things, that I am a great sinner, and that Christ is a great Savior.” He composed his own epitaph. Here are some of those words as they appear on a plain marble tablet.
JOHN NEWTON
CLERK
ONCE AN INFIDEL AND LIBERTINE
A SERVANT OF SLAVES IN AFRICA,
WAS,
BY THE RICH MERCY OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOUR
JESUS CHRIST,
PRESERVED, RESTORED, PARDONED,
AND APPOINTED TO PREACH THE FAITH
HE HAD LONG LABOURED TO DESTROY.
