"Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." Proverbs 30:6

As long as there have been humans, there has been a corresponding attempt to corrupt the words of God. From the very first temptation, the attack of Satan was on the level of the reliability of God’s word. As these attacks continue perpetually, they have varied in scope from casting doubt on the reliability of God to a questioning of the very existence of God. We must recognize both the continued existence of Satan’s attack and our own vulnerability to this mindset. Our ever-present sinful impulse is to in some way shape God’s word to fit our current desire, to make our sins less sinful, or to make our sacrifices less painful. We are familiar with Satan’s “did God really mean that” attack because we are prone to use the very same thought process to fit our agenda. We tend to complicate God’s words when they are usually very plain. We elevate the less certain (feelings, impulses, opinion, interpretation) over the very certain. We even use good things (prayer) to squirm out of God’s known will. Yet, every time, it is eventually realized that God’s words alone are pure. Let God be true, and every man a liar that would seek to add additional light to God’s plain revelation.
