"An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression." Proverbs 29:22 (part 1)

Sin is never static, neither in manifestation or result. Unchecked anger becomes irrational fury. As anger progresses to fury, unsettling but reconcilable strife results in unrepairable brokenness. As we consider this truth, we must also understand that the flashpoints, the provocations for anger abound. In a sin-cursed world, you can be sure that you will experience personal grievance. If the opportunity for anger abounds, and sin is never static but instead multiplies and leads to ruin, it stands to reason that we are in constant need of a governor to control our anger. For the child of God, that governor is the Holy Spirit. His ministry includes the conviction of sin and the speaking of truth. He works both on the level of the heart (conviction of sin) and the head (the word of truth). The Christian is urged to be filled with the Spirit, submitting our perceptions, our emotions, our wills, to His wisdom and leadership. It is in this walk in the Spirit that we avoid the disaster described in this passage. Tomorrow, we will look at it means to be filled with the Spirit in relation to anger.
