This is the nature of the King of kings. His actions are not determined by the rate of return on His investment. Since He is not a respecter of persons, He is not swayed by the trappings of wealth and power while ignoring the plight of the low and needy. In fact, He considers the poor, takes note of the desolate, and activates His powerful hosts on their behalf. He speaks for those whose voice is ignored and hushed. Blind Bartimaeus received sight because the King faithfully judges the poor. Your hope of eternal life is also grounded in this faithful commitment to justice for the needy. In like manner, wherever we have authority, wherever we wield influence, faithfulness demands that we use that influence to bless those who are deemed insignificant. The temptation to establish our position in life by surrounding ourselves with the comely and accepted while ignoring the unsightly is exactly the opposite of God, and the only yield is superficial and unstable. Thrones built on shifting sand are sure to crumble, but faithful, indiscriminate kindness to all builds lasting loyalty.
