Skittish racehorses are fitted with blinders that focus their eyes only on their own path. If we are honest, we must admit that we often function as if we are wearing blinders. Whatever the cause (busyness, selfishness, forgetfulness) we are often only functionally aware of our own lives. This is not God’s design for His people. His intention is that we imitate Christ not only in loving righteousness but in loving people. If you are convicted about your own lack of considering the needs of others, a good place to begin would be through prayer. Pray for a caring, thoughtful mind. Pray for others specifically. As you pray for them, consider their needs. Pray for people groups (unwed mothers, homeless, the sick, etc) specifically. As you pray, the Holy Spirit will enlighten you as to how you can be used to minister to their needs. The most important word in this verse is consider. Care only comes when one has first considered.
