To replace justice with selfish greed, will bring a nation, a family, or an individual to ruin. While the context of this verse speaks of those in political power, the principle applies to us all. Would you consider yourself to be a self-centered person? What do you base your decisions on? What do you usually become angry about? While these might seem like random questions, they have to do with our sense of justice or how we determine what is right. If God is not ruling our hearts and minds through His Word, we are basing our decisions on our own wisdom or preference. This eventually leads to injustice and selfishness. May we be aware that we live under the rule of the judge of all the earth, who alone has the authority to establish what is right.
