Gospel Promises
Acts 3:19-21
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the LORD.
20 And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you:
21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began.
The Promise of Sin Blotted Out
19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out,Repentance is the gift of God (2 Timothy 2:25) as is conversion, a synonym of repentance. Both are the result of the Spirit of grace changing the heart of chosen and redeemed sinners to God in Christ Jesus, 1 Corinthians 1:26-31. Repentance and conversion are the evidence of having had sins blotted out, not the cause. Sins were blotted out once for all at the cross for every sinner that God purposed to save from eternity, Colossians 2:14-15. Until or unless one manifests God given repentance from dead works, and is turned to the LORD Jesus Christ alone as ALL of God’s righteousness, there can’t be any claim to sins blotted out. Repentance and conversion are the fruit, whereas the sins blotted out is the reason God grants His grace to repent.
The Promise of the Refreshing Presence of the LORD
when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the LORD. These are seasons of refreshment that the Spirit gives to Christ’s redeemed ones that He has drawn to Him in repentance. The joy, peace and rejoicing of sins forgiven are the work of the Spirit for the comfort and consolation of the soul, Romans 14:17. Faith is the gift of God as is assurance of faith, Hebrews 10:22. The Spirit draws the heart to the Object of faith (Christ and His finished work) in full assurance of faith, to rest in Christ alone, because of His blood shed revealed to the heart for comfort and assurance.
The Promise of the Fulfillment of All things in Christ
20 And He shall send Jesus Christ, which before was preached unto you: 21 Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all his holy prophets since the world began. We don’t yet see the full effects of the redemption and justification of God’s children because of the effects of sin’s presence, Romans 8:23 although the penalty has been paid. Yet it is with hope in the LORD Jesus, as preached in the Scriptures by His holy prophets (sanctified and set apart by the Holy Spirit) that we await the complete restitution of all things to a righteous state, free from the very presence of sin, and complete rectification and removal of all of the effects of the fall, Revelation 21:4.
The prophets declared Him Who was to come, and the sufferings He should suffer to enter into glory, 1 Peter 1:11. What they foretold, through the Spirit of Christ in them, and fully accomplished in His first coming, gives God’s children hope in the full, final, and forever reversal of the effects of sin when each one will be saved to sin no more when He comes again! O glorious promise! O glorious hope!
