“A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool’s wrath is heavier than them both.” Proverbs 27:3
This passage reminds us of the destructive nature of uncontrolled passions. Uncontrolled wrath destroys both the dispenser and the recipient. But, it is also a reminder that if you are in Christ, you can control your emotions. Part of the great salvation that we enjoy right now is the ability to fight our worst tendencies. Jesus has won the victory over all of our enemies, including our own sinful natures. The writer of Hebrews offers great hope to those plagued with besetting sins as he exhorts us to lay aside the sin that doth so easily beset as we look to Jesus Christ both for grace and as an example of one who endured great temptation while not succumbing to it. Entrenched sinful tendencies are admittedly terribly difficult to uproot. But, we are not left without hope or the tools to uproot. We must recognize them as truly being destructive and an offense toward God. Are there uncontrolled passions ruling your life? Today is the day to begin uprooting them through repentance, prayer, and seeking God’s word for the tools to uproot.
