Preaching the God of the Scriptures
Acts 3:13-15
Preaching the God of the Scriptures
13 The God of Abraham, and of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, -There is but ONE God over all. The same God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the patriarchs is the One Who came in the flesh as a man, to redeem them. One God (Godhead of Father, Son and Spirit), one elect people of God, one Faith, one Savior, and One Way of salvation revealed by the God of Scripture.
Preaching the Christ of the Scriptures
hath glorified His Son Jesus; Although ordained from eternity to be the Savior, and One in glory with the Father from eternity, yet, it was necessary that Jesus Christ the Son of God come into the world as a man, and “though He were a Son, yet learned He obedience by the things which He suffered;9 and being made perfect, He became the Author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him,” Hebrews 5:8, 9. The salvation of sinners was purposed from eternity, but accomplished in time. God the Father glorified His Son, as well as every sinner given Him of the Father in electing Grace, when He finished the work in His life and death, enabling God to be just and justify. The word ‘Son’ has a double meaning of ‘servant.’ God the Father’s Servant for the accomplishing of the pre-ordained salvation from eternity.
Preaching the Cross of the Scriptures
Whom ye delivered up, and denied Him in the presence of Pilate, when he was determined to letHimgo.14 But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you;15 and killed the Prince of Life. The cross of the Scriptures is not the wood, but the One who died. Wicked men delivered Him up and denied who He is as God, the Holy and Just One. But in this we see a picture of Substitution and Satisfaction which is the message of the cross of the Scriptures. He was delivered up by wicked hands, yet they were but the representatives of those sinners for whom Christ died. He willingly bore the contradiction of sinners against Himself, because it was for the worst of sinners that He laid down His life. And yet, being the Prince of Life, they did not put God to death, but rather the Man, as the representative of wicked fallen sinners that the Father gave Him to save. All the while they were accomplishing their will, they were fulfilling the will of God the Father.
Preaching the Righteousness of the Scriptures
Whom God hath raised from the dead; whereof we are witnesses. God the Father raised up His Son because, according to the Scriptures, the Lord Jesus having put away the sin of His people completely, there remained nothing but righteousness to impute to their spiritual account, once-for-all. “Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification,” Romans 4:25. In one time in one place, by one Sacrifice, God forever justified those He purposed to save by His Grace, It is the ONLY Righteousness that He accepts on behalf of sinners of His choosing.
Preaching the Doctrine of the Scriptures- 2 Timothy 3:16
“All scripture [written in its original form and faithfully preserved through all time] is given by inspiration of God [God breathed by the Spirit of God through those writers chosen by God], and is profitable for doctrine [teaching], for reproof [bring evidence to light], for correction [restoration from a fallen to an upright state], for instruction [discipline] in Righteousness” [God’s justice to which the LORD Jesus answered by His righteous obedience unto death]. Peter’s message, as well as that of all of the Apostles was one of the doctrine of Christ, 2 John 1:9. He did not preach to merely inform, and certainly not to entertain sinners on the road to hell, but to teach them of Christ. It is this Word of Righteousness that the Holy Spirit brings home to the heart of those sinners that the Father chose, and the Son redeemed to show them their condemnation, and draw them to the LORD Jesus as their only Righteousness before God. Such is the pattern of preaching of all whom the LORD sends forth to preach.
