There is undoubtedly an application to the gospel in this verse. The dispatch from heaven announcing the salvation found in Jesus Christ provides cool water that forever quenches thirst. One of the manifold blessings of salvation is the renewal of sincere, meaningful relationships. As humans, we were created in the image of God as relational beings. Sin curses relationships as we each seek our own way. In salvation, we are recreated with the ability to seek not our own, but the good of others. We find a new family, the family of God, connected by our mutual love of the grace that is found in Jesus. With this new blessing comes new responsibility. We are called to edify, to bless, to weep with those that weep and rejoice with those who rejoice, to bear one another’s burdens, and to pray for those in need. As technology increases the speed and access to communication, however, somehow edifying communication seems to have decreased. Today would be a good opportunity for you to acknowledge the manifold blessings of God by blessing someone else through sending good news from a far country. Bless someone today by praying for them and then letting them know you prayed for them. Call an elderly person and visit for a few minutes. Take advantage of the gift of relationships by relating to someone in a meaningful way today.
