“But to them that rebuke him shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.” Proverbs 24:25
Solomon continues to promote honest judgment regardless of any perceived loss of favor, popularity, or any other fear that might promote lying. What I want to emphasize this morning is that true wisdom comes from faith. As we have already considered in the two previous verses, it is fear that produces lies. The fear of being labeled out of touch, the fear of losing position, the fear of looking stupid – fear is a powerful motivator. But God here tells us that speaking and living truth will not result in our fears being realized. Instead, delight and blessing will follow those who are faithful to God, to those who are loyal to truth. The only way to act on this statement is faith in a faithful God. Are you a timid person? I am. Are you fearful of standing out? I am. I will never choose to speak truth in the face of adversity through my own strength. I will always choose the easier way. My only hope to honor God at all times is by faith. It is only in looking to Him for strength and believing that He is more capable of blessing me than I am in blessing myself that I can walk in true wisdom.
