2Sa 5:19 And David enquired of the LORD These are important words. David is preapring for battle. The Philistines have gathered against David to battle. David asks God what he should do. Should he go up to fight? God informs David he should go up and fight. God gave David the victory.
Later, the Philistines came against David again.
2Sa 5:23 And when David enquired of the LORD, he said
Again, David enquires of the Lord. Again, God tells David what to do. This time David is not to go up against them, but to circle around behind them. David is to wait until he hears the sound in the mulberry trees. Then he is to fight. Once again, the Lord fights for Israel. 2Sa 5:25 And David did so, as the LORD had commanded him; and smote the Philistines from Geba until thou come to Gazer.
How do we respond when our enemies come against us? How do we respond when we face difficult circumstances? Do we enquire of the Lord?
You may not compare the trials you face every day with those which David faced. Yet, they are the same. Oh, yours may be a difficulty with a coworker. Or, an unexpected bill. Also, the trial you face may be an uncertain future. Whatever trial you face, you need to follow the example of David. You should enquire of the Lord. No event is too trivial to enquire of the Lord. Actually, I think God is pleased when we consult Him. Our consultation is an expression of our dependence on God. If we do not enquire of God, whose wisdom are we following? Definitely not His.
Today, remember how David faced difficult decisions, David enquired of the Lord.
