Reflections While Reading

The question is always asked, "How should we respond when someone seeks to do evil unto us? Should we seek revenge?"

There is no doubt, Saul sought to do evil unto David. Saul sought to kill David.

How did David respond when he had the opportunity to take the life of Saul? How did David answer when his friend asked to take the life of Saul?

1Sa 26:9 And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed, and be guiltless?
1Sa 26:10 David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.
1Sa 26:11 The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.

David knew he had not sinned against God or Saul. He would not touch Saul. David knew, "the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die." David would not take matters into his own hands. He waited on the Lord.

David waited on the Lord to deliver him out of all of his tribulation.

1Sa 26:24 And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.

I know this is difficult for us to do. It is difficult to wait on the Lord, to wait on the Lord to deliver us out of tribulation. David waited. David's kingdom was established.

We too can wait on the Lord to deliver us. What will it take to wait? Trusting the Lord to do good. Trusting the Lord's purpose is right. We will not be able to take matters into our own hands. We must walk by faith, waiting on the Lord.
