I am reading a Chronological bible in my daily reading. This bible inputs the Psalms in the narrative where David when David would have written them. Today, Psalm 54 is input with 1st Samuel 23:13-29. David is hiding from Saul. The Ziphites send to Saul telling him where David is hiding. They help Saul pursue David.
The interesting thing to me is how David responds to this trouble he is facing. His response seems to be different than how we would respond. Whenever we face hardship, the first thing we want to do is complain. Oh, God why me? Why did do let this happen to me? This pressure is too great. I don't think I can take it anymore.
Look how David responded! Read Psalm 54.
Psa 54:4 Behold, God is mine helper: the Lord is with them that uphold my soul.
Psa 54:5 He shall reward evil unto mine enemies: cut them off in thy truth.
Psa 54:6 I will freely sacrifice unto thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for it is good.
Psa 54:7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and mine eye hath seen his desire upon mine enemies.
God is my helper. The Lord will uphold. I will freely sacrifice unto Him. I will praise the name of God for the Lord is good. He hath delivered me.
No complaining here. Just the promise to praise God!
Maybe we should change the way we respond to hardship. Maybe if we trusted God and prasied Him in the midst of struggle, the stress would be less. Maybe we would see God's handiwork a little more clearly. Maybe we would recognize the victory He has given.
