“If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? And he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? And shall not he render to every man according to his works?” Proverbs 24:11-12 (part 2)

Our natural tendency is to leave this passage in the abstract. But as Solomon instructs, the One that ponders the hearts looks past our claims of ignorance. Our responsibility as Christians is to come to the aid of those who are unable to help themselves. Several practical examples of this come immediately to mind. In one case, we seem to lack the power and sadly, we seem to have lost interest. I am speaking of abortion, in which the helpless are literally drawn to death. It is easy to become temporarily emotional over this issue and then move on to more relevant life issues. The reality is that as Christians, we seem to have little power to make a difference in the slaughter of the unborn. But where we do have power, we should wield it. And in reality, we have more power than we think. We have the ability to cry out to God on behalf of these children, asking Him to intervene on a governmental level and on the personal level of each individual life. This should be a constant topic of supplication for every Christian. But we also have other practical power in this area of need. Let me list a few:

  • Live a life of personal purity
  • Encourage purity among acquaintances
  • Financially support crisis pregnancy endeavors
  • Volunteer time for crisis pregnancy centers
  • Support pro-life legislators and legislation
  • Demonstrate Christ-like meekness so that those who are desperate might consider you as a source of counsel
