David walked with God. He walked in wisdom. This did not mean David would be insulated from hardships. Even though David faithfully served Saul, Saul hated David. The spirit of God had departed from Saul. Saul knew the kingdom would be taken from him. Saul knew God was with David. Therefore, Saul attempted to kill David on numerous occasions. David must flee his home. What was David's attitude as he fled his home? What was his attitude as he ran from Saul? Did he question God? Did he ask God why don't you defend me? Did David claim his own faithfulness, telling God these problems should not come his way because he is being faithful? No
David penned Psalm 34 during this time. Read this Psalm. I will share the first 10 verses.
Psa 34:1 A Psalm of David, when he changed his behaviour before Abimelech; who drove him away, and he departed. I will bless the LORD at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth.
Psa 34:2 My soul shall make her boast in the LORD: the humble shall hear thereof, and be glad.
Psa 34:3 O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.
Psa 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
Psa 34:5 They looked unto him, and were lightened: and their faces were not ashamed.
Psa 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.
Psa 34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them.
Psa 34:8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
Psa 34:9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him.
Psa 34:10 The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good thing.
Notice the attitude of David when he faced these difficulties. I will bless the Lord at all times. I will praise the Lord continually. I will boast in God. I sought the Lord, He heard me. (These words spoken while running from an enemy) The Lord saved the poor man out of his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those that fear him. The Lord is good. The Lord blesses those who trust in Him. There is no want to those that fear Him.
Do we face hardships the same way as David? How do you respond when trouble comes your way? Think of David. Think how he trusted the Lord. Think how David proclaimed the goodness of God in the midst of his trial.
My prayer today is that we all maintain the understanding of the goodness of God; even in the midst of trials. Also, my prayer is that we never forget to trust God, realizing the Lord encamps around those that fear Him.
