Continuing on with what was going on in Jeremiah's day, we will gain more and more instruction from God's word. Notice in verse 10 that they had gotten on an "evil course." What course was this? Ephesians 2:2 calls it the "course of this world." Not only that but verse 11 says their wickedness was found in His house. All this would put them on a slippery path (verse 12) with the lights out. I can't help but remind you again of Samson when he got his eyes put out by the Philistines (Judg 16:19). Before that happend he was so confident in himself but he went to sleep. Our Lord warned us in (Matt 13:25) that it was while men slept that the enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat." Then something intresting is mentioned back in (Judges 16:19). "She caused him to shave off the SEVEN locks of his head:" Lets look at that statement for a few minutes. That King James Bible is so neat, and so powerful and so wonderful. How unsearchable are it's judgments, and it's ways past finding out! No wonder the word says in Psalms 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name. It's like Jesus and everyone can agree to this statement, "Never man spake like this man." Noone else speaks like the King.
Now back to the statement in (Judg 16:19). Why did it say seven locks? Well seven is the number for perfection. So we see Samson could be a type the church here. He was strong and done mighty things while yielded to the Spirit (Judg 13:25,14:6,19,15:14). However when he began to sleep and slumber (Pr 6:10-11) spiritual poverty came and his seven locks were cut from him. Seven is connected with God's word. Psalms 12:6 The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Proverbs 9:1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: Where does wisdom come from? Jeremiah 8:9 The wise men are ashamed, they are dismayed and taken: lo, they have rejected the word of the LORD; and what wisdom is in them? Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom.
What you have is a picture of the church going to sleep as a whole. There are still many on the old paths (Jer 6:16) but as a whole they are sleeping and Delilah has cut the word out. Wonder who Delilah pictures? Maybe the Mother of the harlots (Rev 17:5). She wants to cut the real word (KJV) out so she can get all the little harlots together. Many churches today have an emphasis on programs, song services, youth events, basketball games, etc, with no emphasis on God's holy word. They have caused confusion ( 1 Cor 14:33) with multiple versions in the pulpit that water down the rebuke to sin such as Sodomy and other such growing sins of the day. This statement leads us back to Jeremiah 23.
Notice in verse 14 that the false prophets are walking in lies. How? Verse 24 says they prophesy lies in the name of the LORD. This is what is going on everyday and not much is being said about it. Look back at verse 14 and see that this strengthens the hands of evildoers. Also, it says they are unto the LORD as Sodom. Sodom was in rebellion to the LORD. We are in the last days of the Church Age just before the rapture and the attack is where it started in Genesis chapter 3. The devil hates God's word and will do anything he can to get you to doubt it. He will use a "godly" pastor yielding to his flesh nature to deceive people into thinking just because he uses a NIV or whatever other perversion there is, it's ok.
Let's stand for God's world if the stars fall. Let's stand for God's word if the whole world doesn't. If the whole world says the truth is a lie that doesn't change that facts of the truth. The Lord is coming soon (maybe today!) and wouldn't it be nice if we could hear well done because we weren't ashamed of His words? (Luke 9:26).
