As Solomon opens his heart to his son, his first words concern the temptation to sexual sin. This should be a reminder to all of how prevalent this temptation is to men. His words are plain yet firm. In other words, Solomon is saying, “No matter what your mind might tell you in the moment, there is no good that can come out of this pursuit.” In the previous verse, Solomon had encouraged his son to observe his ways. Sadly, Solomon must have said this with great grief, scars, and remorse. His own life bore the sad testimony of the deep ditch of pursuing illicit pleasure. While temptations abound and opportunities to succumb to temptations abound, the simple truth should always be forefront in our minds: The way of illicit pleasure is the way of death.
