Today in my reading, the children of Israel crossed over the Jordan into the Promised Land.
We can draw many thoughts from these passages. However, let's focus on just a couple of ideas.
First, let's think about the manna. God had provided food for them daily in the wilderness. When they crossed the river Jordan, the manna ceased. Why? Because they were able to eat of the good of the Promised Land. The manna ceased the day after they had eaten the produce of the land. The provision of God is always enough. Many times it is not overflwoing, but just enough. Sometimes, we desire plenty. However, when Jesus taught His disciples to pray, He told them to pray, "Give us this day our daily bread." When our daily needs are met, we should be thankful and satisfied.
Also, we see God reestablishing the Covenant Ceremonies. The children of Israel reinstituted circumcison. Why? Of course it was a sign of the covenant God made with Abraham. Also, in our reading today, God says, "This day I have rolled the reproach of Egypt from you." Egypt was a place of bondage. God gave the ceremony to prove they were separated unto the Lord.
This is what baptism is for the Christian. It is a ceremony to identify yourself with Jesus. It is a proclamation that I am separated from the world unto God. Have you followed the ordinance? Have you identified yourself with Jesus?
