In our corrupt nature we are deceived into thinking that love is only expressed in what makes the one to whom the love is being expressed feel comforted. This deception is deeply rooted in our depraved nature and must be discerned or we will by default fall into it. So many are accused of being unloving for speaking the truth and I would propose that this notion is unbiblical. 2John1- The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth. 2- For truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever. vs.4- I rejoiced greatly that I found thy children walking in truth. vs.5b I command you that we love one another. vs.6a- And this is love, that we walk after his commandments. We not loving our brothers and sisters in The Lord nor the unbeliever if we are not obeying the commandments of God. Therefore if we have God's love abiding in us we will be compelled to to live and to speak the truth. The primary reason we like to think that love is calculated by good feelings is that we love to preserve our own good reputation among men and because we like to feel good. My friends, love, as expressed by our Lord Jesus and His Apostles, is seen in the fact that they lived and preached the truth knowing it would bring much suffering and even death. When we ignore sin we are not helping anyone except ourself and when we are disobedient to our Lord's commands we are not loving anyone but ourself. Love will compel us to preach the gospel to the lost and to exhort our brothers and sisters unto good works.
