Does Jesus Make You Angry?
Just the sight of Jesus, and the sound of his astounding words, enraged these people to the point where they wanted to murder him. This is surprising when we consider the fact that in this chapter, he is preaching the good news about something that has already happened. He is not asking people to do something to take action to save themselves or even make themselves more savable. No, he is speaking about a battle that is already won. Moreover, he didn't preach himself to be another possible way to be at peace with God. No, he preached himself to be the only way to God! The response of those who need this message is often iritation. So we could ask the question; Does Jesus make you angry? People who are convinced that they are good, don't like other people to point out that the good they see in themselves is an illusion. The masses see themselves as free, and are annoyed that Jesus insists that they are not. Jesus preached a righteousness that came from the outside. That annoys people because people don't like to be told that they can't do anything to please God. Does Jesus make you angry like this too? It made these people so angry that they wanted to kill him!
