All is Nothing Without God
When Satan discovers that Jesus will not embrace all things if that means he has to slight his Father, he tries another approach that always works with other people. He will misinterpret Scripture. He comes with a concept and tries to support it with a twist of Scripture. Just because he quotes the Bible doesn't make him trustworthy. Satan quotes a Christ-centred passage. Satan presses Jesus to insist that the Father give him a physical sign of the Father's love. In the desert, this may have seemed reasonable. It is sometimes the longing of a Christian who is suffering. People in calamity can be tempted to expect a sign. The church is full of people who claim to love Christ, but find themselves discontent, unhappy with the circumstances God has granted. These are evidences of lack of satisfaction in Christ. Lack of appreciation for the massive evidence of God's love. We need to trust God's word that he is enough for us. Everything is nothing without God.
