Volumes could be filled with testimony after testimony that bears witness to the truth of this passage. Many people could tell stories of those they love, or their own personal experiences that would break our hearts as we listen to the pain and anguish that has unfolded in their lives. However, the individuals who would affirm this truth have a commonality, they didn't know, or they didn’t listen. While much advice could be given to keep us out of the first category of acting in ignorance, I want to speak to the much broader audience who do know, and yet are tempted to ignore wisdom. Parents, our children ought to be familiar with these two verses, and these verses ought to be saturated with our prayers on their behalf. How many stories could be told of young people who could not withstand the influence of ungodliness, and as a result, suffered much damage to their souls? How many individuals have sentenced themselves to a life of misery in marriage, because they thought they could change the man or woman who had given themselves over to a lifestyle that was characterized by anger? Sadly, these individuals usually discover that rather than changing the angry person, the angry person changes them. They become cynical, depressed, anxious, distant, and miserable. Many who once had a vibrant walk with the Lord, and were such an encouragement to the Kingdom, are gradually transformed into a pitiful shell of the person they once were. It doesn't have to be this way. Get wisdom; apply your hearts to knowledge; believe God, and take His word seriously.
