“Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance ." Acts 26:19,20 This was the message of the Apostle Paul in the early church and should be our message today. Rather than a man-centered message of how to improve yourself and make yourself happy, the gospel of God exposes our great problem, sin, and God's great remedy, Jesus Christ. Let us pray that this message will be sounded out and that God will give people hearts to believe and receive it.
But for those of us who have believed it, let us remind ourselves that this message is to be believed and obeyed daily! Daily, we have to turn away from our selfishness, pride and lazy excuses, and turn back to God. We have to daily preach the gospel to ourselves, that Christ's sacrifice has covered all our sins (even today's), and that we have full acceptance with God through Him. Then, we have to keep preaching to ourselves with the truth that because of Christ we are free from sin's chokehold, and can run in the way of righteousness by God's grace.
Being a true believer doesn't mean that you reach a point of sinless perfection. But, it does mean that you are called to a daily life of turning away from something, and turning towards Someone! It is a message of hope and freedom. Turn to Jesus, the Friend of Sinners, today.
