"Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, he also shall cry himself, but shall not be heard." Prov. 21:13
The teaching that Solomon gives us here is very similar to what Jesus teaches in Mt. 5:7 when he says “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy”. Those who have received mercy from God ought to be very quick to show mercy toward others. I realize we can struggle with our own personal biases and questions concerning others and the circumstances that surround their situations; but it is always God’s will for us to be unnecessarily kind to others as the opportunities arise. There is no gulf that exists between you and another individual that could begin to compare to the natural separation that God overcame in order to show mercy to you. Mercy is not a feeling of compassion, but an act of unnecessary kindness toward someone. This being said, we do not look for those who deserve our mercy, mercy is never deserved. Instead we look to the continuous undeserved mercies we receive every morning, and in response to the incredible goodness of Christ, we show mercy as well.
