The accumulation of any type of treasure that comes through deceit is just an illusion, and will soon lead to destruction. A common character trait of an individual, who is given over to lying, is that they believe they will be able to fool people forever. They are blinded and consumed by pride, and eventually believe they are untouchable. However, God is very plain with us about the reality of deceit; we are not fooling Him, and we will not fool others forever. In Numbers 32:23b, God says to Israel, “and be sure your sin will find you out.” There are few things in life we can be “sure” of, but one thing we can count on is that our sins will be brought into the light. Are there areas in your life this morning that are saturated in deceit? Bring yourself into the light and flee from the path of destruction. The truth is you were never smart enough to manage the lies that come so naturally to us all; Jesus Christ is our only refuge from our lies and from ourselves. It is only as we look to Him in faith and obedience, that we find deliverance from the path of deceit, which is a road that leads to death.
