We have all been "bitten" by sin - (and it is a
serious and deadly bite) - just as the
children of Israel were bitten by the fiery serpents. But soon they saw their need of a cure and called
out for help - and that cure came by a look of
faith.
The cure for our sin comes by a look of faith
to the Lord Jesus Christ - lifted up upon the Cross,
and bearing our sin and shame that we may go free.
Of course, the Lord Jesus Christ Himself mentioned
this incident in John 3:14, while speaking to Nicodemus, so
all the more reason why we should take note of,
and study this account.
Rev Elliott looks at it under the following headings,
concerning the children of Israel:
1.THE PROFANITY THEY DISPLAYED
2.THE CALAMITY THEY SUFFERED
3.THE MERCY THEY SOUGHT
4.THE REMEDY THEY WERE GIVEN

OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO THE POOR
In Mark 14:7, the Lord Jesus says, 'For ye have the poor with you always, and whensoever
ye will ye may do them good: but me ye have not
always.'
So what are our responsibilities towards the poor,
especially as Christians ?
Rev Elliott takes a look at what the book of Proverbs
says on this subject, and deals with it in two
divisions.
1. THE DIVINE REGARD FOR THE POOR
Do you know that God is very interested in how
we treat the poor ?
In Proverbs 14: 31 we read:
'He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker:
but he that honoureth Him hath mercy on the poor.'
2. THE HUMAN RESPONSE TO THE POOR
There are two different responses which are made
towards the poor, which can be found in Proverbs
29:7 -
'The righteous considereth the cause of the poor:
but the wicked regardeth not to know it.'
