"Mighty In The Scriptures"

Acts 18:24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. (28) For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.

This Jewish man, Apollos is to be extremely admired. It is said of him that he was "mighty in the scriptures". What a compliment to any Christian! The word mighty means, "able, capable, powerful". There are many Christians that are mighty in singing, sermonizing or playing a musical instrument. But this man is said to be mighty in the scriptures. Studying the word "scripture" and its varities, it is found that the word only appears one time in the Old Testament, the remaining 52 times is in the New Testament. During the writing the book of Acts, the only scripture to be found would be the Old Testament, yet this saved Jew could see Jesus througout Genesis to Malachi. Not only could he see Jesus in these writings, he was mighty to shew others, "and that publickly", that Jesus was Christ (the Messiah)!

He was so well studied in the Old Testament, he could show someone else Jesus with his Bible. The thought now turns itself toward us. Are we mighty in the scriptures; enough so that we could take our Bible and show someone else Jesus? That is the need of the world. Jesus Christ is revealed through the scriptures, both Old and New Testaments. Every turn of the page reveals Him! Can you take your Bible and show someone else this man named Jesus, the Savior of the world?

After His resurrection, Jesus began walking with two disciples (Luke 24) on their travel to Emmaus. They talked for a while and then the Bible says, Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself. This so moved theses two disciples they said, "Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?" (verse 32).

For someone to know Jesus, the scriptures have to be opened to them. God reveals His Son through the scriptures. Are you mighty enough to open your Bible and show someone else the crucified and risen Lord?

Joh 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.
