“The Lord is far from the wicked: but he heareth the prayer of the righteous.” Proverbs 15:29

Have you ever experienced functional blindness? You know the kind that sends you on a maddening search to find your lost keys, only to later discover they have been in your pocket the whole time. The joy of discovery is mitigated by the humiliation and feeling of stupidity. But in reality, no real harm has been done. Spiritual blindness, however, is fatal. Think of Judas Iscariot. He lived in the intimate company of Christ. Jesus even prophesied directly in Judas’ hearing of Judas’ betrayal. And yet, nothing could penetrate his blindness, nothing could stem the lust of greed in his heart. And after the wicked deed was done, the bitter fruit drove him to suicide. Friend, a hearing ear, an understanding heart, and closeness with Christ are the greatest treasures we possess. They should be guarded, cherished, and nurtured daily. While the Lord was never truly dear to Judas, other Bible figures like David, Abraham, and Peter truly knew Christ. And yet, when He was far from their thoughts, they too, like Judas acted in ways that exhibited functional blindness. “The Lord is near, the Lord hears the prayer…” – Statements like these are powerful! Treasure the closeness of the Lord today by talking to Him, seeking Him for direction, and obeying His clear commands.
