For the Wider Area The Grace World View β Kenya Kenya is located on the east coast of Africa. It borders on Somalia, Ethiopia, Sudan, Uganda, and Tanzania. The weather is tropical in the coastal east and more arid in the interior west. Nearly 34 million people live in Kenya. At one time Kenya had the highest natural growth rate in the world, but the result of AIDS has significantly reduced the growth rate. Half of the population is age 15 or younger. Kenya has significant economic potential, but has performed poorly due to corruption, mismanagement and civil unrest. Agriculture and tourism are major sources of income. Kenya gained independence from Britain in 1963 and established a one party republic. The same man served as president from 1978 until 2002. Kenya is struggling to implement a multi-party system. There is much to praise the Lord for. Kenya is perhaps the most evangelized country in Africa and the work has shown abundant fruit. Nearly one third of the population is classified as Evangelical, unfortunately, nominalism has become a big problem, and a much smaller number actually attends church. There is a severe lack of trained Pastors to deal with the growth of churches. Pray that tribal divisions would be broken down. These divisions plus the influence of the occult practices of traditional African religions have caused many problems in churches.
Christian Radio Station attacked β AP Report - May 13, 2006 KENYA β Nairobi - Gunmen shot and killed one person, wounded two others and torched part of Hope FM during the broadcasting of a program that compared teachings of the Bible and the Koran. One security guard was stabbed and later shot dead during the attack, and another was wounded, according to a passer-by who was shot when he went to investigate the emergency alarm. The independent Kenya Television Network reported that some of the assailants poured flammable liquid in some of the offices at the radio station and then set it alight. The eight masked assailants shouted angrily that producers had failed to take their telephone calls. They ordered a technician to take the station off the air, according to church workers. A police spokesman, said there had been no arrests, and the identities of the gunmen were unclear.
