“Praise ye the Lord: for it is good to sing praises unto our God; for it is pleasant; and praise is comely .” Psalm 147:1 God’s perspective, here, is that praising Him is a pleasant and comely (beautiful) thing. Sometimes giving praise to God seems so small compared with His greatness. Our words seem insignificant contrasted with His incredible sacrifice for salvation, and His daily mercies of providence. But, praise Him we must!
The remainder of the Psalm gives some specific reasons why God is worthy of our praise. He heals the broken-hearted. He knows each star and calls them by name…serious power and wisdom! He gives rain and makes the grass grow, sustaining and providing for His creation. He delights in those who fear Him and hope in His mercy. On and on the list goes.
Don’t wait until you feel spiritual to praise God, just praise Him! How beneficial it is to our soul to elevate our minds and hearts from this world of sin to ponder and praise the excellencies of our great God.
