"Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured" Proverbs 13:18
How do you distinguish your good ideas from the bad ones? Do you have any filters set up in your life to tip you off to the possibility that you might need to redirect your thoughts or actions? One of the hardest things to grasp is that we are not always able to navigate our own lives independent of other people. It is one thing to realize that we need God’s guidance; it is another to embrace the reality that many times God guides us through the instruction of a flawed human being. When we set ourselves up as the wisest person we know, we are setting ourselves up for shame. It is in a multitude of counselors that safety is found (Prov. 11:14; 15:22; 24:26). So, I guess we are left with a few probing questions this morning.
How open are you to those who do not see everything exactly the way you do?
How well do you receive instruction, correction, or criticism?
How often do you seek the wisdom of others in your life decisions?
