"The ransom of a man's life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke." Proverbs 13:8
This verse speaks to one of the possible burdens that accompany wealth. After reading several commentaries on this verse, the general meaning seems to be that those who have riches also have people who want their riches. Think about how much liability insurance doctors, lawyers and others who are at the top of the salary scale must keep for the purpose of bogus lawsuits that they know are inevitable. The poor have no threat of this. What is the point of this verse for us today? Be content with what you have. Everyone’s “dream job” is accompanied by unanticipated heart aches. Be content with what you have, and find your fulfillment in Jesus Christ.
