"A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness." Proverbs 12:23
Our passage this morning is an encouragement toward discernment. The prudent man, while he has knowledge, is not driven by pride to make sure everyone knows how much wisdom he has. Rather, he waits until the appropriate time to open his mouth and speak wisdom. We will find this principle again in Proverbs 15:23, as it is referred to as “a word spoken in due season.” Speaking the truth is not always effective, not because of the substance, but because of the delivery. If we would be effective communicators that would seek to edify each other and glorify God, may we pray for and strive after discernment.
